Bolt + Soft City

Rethinking mobility

The future of transportation has to be green if it wants to survive, and that’s one of the main design challenges movility industries are facing. Bolt wants to take an active role in rethinking the way we move and the way we experience transportation. But how does a transportation company takes the lead for a greener more livable future?  Is it just by becoming carbon free? or even further, by changing the way we think about our own mobility and the way our cities are shaped.

Maybe the future of mobility is not about faster and greener transportation systems but about changing the way our cities are built. Cities have been crafted mainly thinking on industrial and economic development leaving aside very important aspects of our development as individuals.

But moving from one place to another represents other forms of interaction, it’s not just about the trip, but about the experience connecting those places. The idea of transportation as an “A” to “B” system that connects a person with a destiny. Therefore when we think about transportation we only about it as going from one place to another place. The experience is reduced to a simple change in spaces

Transportation is actually  a bridge in between two points in a human life. And if we take this into consideration could also be a way to reshape our perception of the cities and communities, leading us to a better experience of our own space and the way we’re living and experiencing our  city. Bolt has a mayor opportunity here to think transportation as an experience. The way we move through the city reshapes the city itself and its communities. A greener future trough transportation means also a better, more humane way to move.

We interviewed people about how they find, schedule and live their city activities. We wanted to know how what they do when they want to fulfil their time or even when they don’t know what to do.
We want to think about transportation as a medium to connect people to experiences and meaningful activities and not only as a move around solution.

A lot of users are not aware of whats happening around, near by or far away. The connection and understanding of city life gets reduced to friends, social media and casual encounters. This is not mainly because availability but because the lack of a platform in which you can discover new experiences and create a complete journey through the same flow. Different from facebook and Google maps, which they only show activities, Bolt could make the experience a full ride, combining the pick up, the ride, the experience and the finally the way back home in one platform.

Our proposal is to create a comprehensive and tailored user experience that combines the resources of Bolt’s transportation network and all of the undiscovered life experiences waiting around the corner in your own town. We want to change the emotional perception of a city and the way you experience it, through a fully designed connection between activities, your preferences and the possibilities a city has to offer for their habitants.

When you stop looking at a transportation app just as an A to B connection bridge, and you start looking at all the things that are happening around going unnoticed, a lot of possibilities gets unleashed. Using data and user analysis, Bolt could integrate into their UI an experience navigation system that’ll come with a full range of activities and a full medium to connect them. Bolt could offer search based on distance, but also on kind of activities, meaning: crowded, lonely places, adventurous, bucket list, dates, exiting, cultural, chill, learning, etc.

Riding with Bolt has now a different face. Its no longer just a transportation system, it’s now a full range App to discover your city, upgrade your social activities and emotional connection with space by creating a meaningful relation with your surroundings.

We have the urgent need to reshape how our cities are being built. In the not so far future, we need to bring the human into the industrial development, and we need to make people more aware about whats of real value when it comes to liveable cities. The future of cities should be shaped by real human needs and putting attention on the emotional side of the human experience.

The future of mobility might not be about mobility. But rather about creating proximity. It might not be about moving faster through longer distances but about getting closer to the things we really need and want as a society. Instead of being a tool to move away, it could become the perfect tool to reshape the way we live and therefore the way we move.
